Sorry, Not Sorry - Baby's Gender is Secret Until Birth

The most asked question once people find out you're pregnant should be: "hey, wanna go for tacos?" It's unfortunate that this isn't the case because I really love tacos, but the question for me that keeps popping up is......

"Do you know what you're having?"

Well, yes, I'm having a BABY. Not an alien, even though it kind of resembles one right now, and definitely not a kangaroo, although those kicks feel like it could be sometimes.

I know people mean well because it's about this time in pregnancy --after 20 weeks-- that many mama's start excitedly announcing the baby's gender, and I did just that with my first two pregnancies. It's a natural wonder for loved ones who are also excited about the new baby and can't wait to buy it something special. AND I 100% GET THAT AND APPRECIATE THE LOVE.

But this time is different. This time, the 3rd time, is the last time and I'm trying to take in every special moment to make it last. When we first found out we were expecting back in August with the baby I later miscarried, I posed the idea of not finding out the gender at all. Once pregnant with our rainbow baby, that changed a bit and we decided that we would find out the gender for ourselves...because waiting is hard...and let everyone else find out on d-day. And that meant everyone, family included.

It's a hard decision keeping something so "secret", and my hope is that my family and friends will respect our decision even if it's not what they want to hear. Most people who I have told this to when asked about gender have been completely understanding and even love the idea. After all, it's our baby, and what's most important is the health of the baby and the mom.

That doesn't mean I can't indulge everyone in letting them in on our gender picks and what we were all hoping for before finding out. You can speculate and make your own fun guesses, but please keep the "I hope it's a....." comments to yourself because what we hope for is a happy, healthy baby.

Crossing our fingers for:
Girl: Both kiddos
Boy: Mommy
Tie: Daddy (but I think I'd put him up there with the kids)

Of course, we'll all be happy with our little 5th addition, whether it wears pink or blue it will have to love hiking regardless, and we can't wait to share him or her with you come May!
